Fertility Consultation
Your First Visit
The initial consultation is a one hour visit during which the couple reviews their medical history in detail with Dr. Manara with careful review of testing and treatments which may have been completed while working with another physician or center. It is very helpful if medical records from any previous testing or treatment be available for review at the initial consultation. If at all possible it is best for both partners to be present at this initial appointment.
After a careful review of the couples history and available records, a vaginal sonogram may be done to evaluate the reproductive organs for any anatomical abnormalities such as ovarian cysts, advanced endometriosis, uterine fibroids or polyps, polycystic ovaries, and to obtain an assessment of ovarian function by counting the total number of follicles visible on the ovaries.
After the history is taken and the vaginal ultrasound completed, Dr. Manara will make recommendations for further evaluation and treatment as indicated. Every effort will be made to avoid repeating studies which have been completed or treatments which have been unsuccessful. Our general philosophy is to begin logical carefully thought out treatment as quickly as possible, with treatment sometimes actually beginning on the day of the initial consultation.
Patients have the opportunity to ask all questions they may have regarding the plans for further evaluation and treatment. To the extent that it may be possible, they will be provided with realistic assessment of their prospects for success based upon all of the information which has been available for review. The risks and complications as well as the specific details regarding any proposed treatment are reviewed and all questions answered. The couple will be provided with specific literature pertaining to and explaining any diagnoses, proposed tests, medications, and treatments. At the conclusion of this consultation couples have a clear understanding of what lies ahead and understand their roles in achieving a successful outcome.
